Your QA Engineer Potential

What Our Student Are Saying...

I GOT THE JOB!!! I am forever thankful for RTQA style of teaching. The curriculum is awesome but what really prepared me for the interview was the internship. I am a visual learner and thrive for a “hands on” approach when it comes to learning. Every scenario, every question, every tasked help me answer the interviewers questions.
Christina
I started my QA role about 1.5 months ago. The pay is good, the benefits are great. My job also doesn’t micromanage me but they do like to know what I’m exactly working on that day or for that sprint, so we do a lot of communicating on my team through our online sources.
alicia
Grateful for this community to share experiences. Keeping in contact may be very beneficial as, we are all picking up on skills we can share and relationships are very important; referrals, references , advice anything I can do to help I’m open to share. Jennifer has built a web of connections for us and I’d love to use it.
DAVION
Good afternoon everyone! I’m so excited to share my win with you all. I started with road to QA not too long after it was first created. I’ve been here for the vast updates and am so grateful for this knowledge. It literally took me about two years to land my first role, but once I locked into the training things flowed better for me. My self doubt was a huge roadblock.
CHERYL
Hello RTQA team and grads, wanted to share great news. I started my analyst role as a temp in Oct 2024 and now I will become a full time direct hire starting Monday, February 10th. This transition comes with bonuses, & benefits!!! I absolutely love my team, my managers, & the company as a whole. I have no words for how grateful (🥲) I am to God for bringing Jen across my timeline. Thank you again for being a woman of your word and providing me with the tools and opportunity to have a better quality of life. I got it from here and it’s UP!!
FELICIA
I am so grateful to Jesus Christ! I'm so thankful for Jennifer, JaLesia, RTQA team, and Sonia Smith. Without your support, encouragement, resources, and my prayers and determination none of this would have been possible. I am forever grateful for this WHOLE EXPERIENCE🙏🏽💕
L.A.
I hope my post inspires and motivates everyone! I just landed my first IT job as a Manual tester. I’m stoked! I’ve always done sales since I was 19 I’m now 27. Got into RoadtoQA last year in may or June and did July 2024 internship. I applied to jobs for about a little over month and stopped because I wasn’t able to get my phone to ring. Quit car sales August or early September got into life insurance and got a night job at a warehouse that paid $18.50/hr to do calls during the day and have money coming in from the night job. Felt exhausted of hitting phones after some time. November came quit night job then December came and quit life insurance and started applying to QA jobs again. Started doing uber and Lyft full time to make time for interviews. I just got an offer an hour ago for 75k/year!! This is life changing! never thought I’d be able to get into tech not having a college degree. Thank you for this program and willing to help people pivot into tech, for my resume and everyone here with RoadtoQA. I start this Monday! I’m excited for this new chapter and journey 🙏
Jesus
I wanted to take the time to thank Jenny and all the hard-working people at R2QA. I went from being an assistant special needs teacher with NOOO technical background at all to being a woman in tech!
PAM
First I want to start off by saying THANK YOU JENNI for this amazing program!! I’ve said it 1000x but I still feel like I owe you another lifetimes worth lol!
Today is officially my first day in my FIRST role with my FIRST YES!

INTRODUCING THE PROVEN SELF-PACED

ROAD TO QA™ SOFTWARE TESTING PROGRAM

Road To QA™ Career Development Program is a self-paced digital learning program for career changers and newbies who want to pivot into technical long-term careers without a degree, certification or previous experience.

With access to over 40+ Learning Modules, Weekly and Monthly Group learning Calls, a private student community & the option to participate in a 4 week Internship experience as a Day in the Life to put all you're learning and QA skills into live practice for you to use on your resume and future interviews.

Six-Step S.K.I.L.L.S. Method To Market

Module 1: START Understanding of the QA Industry and your Transferable skills

L1 - QA Opportunity – Start With a QA Understanding

Get clear on what QA really is—and why it’s your entry point into tech.

In this section, you’ll gain a foundational understanding of the Quality Assurance industry: what QA Engineers do, where they work, and why companies can’t launch software without them. You’ll walk away knowing exactly how QA fits into the tech world—and how this career can be your most realistic, rewarding path into tech without needing to code.

L2 - QA Mindset – How to Master Your Studying & Skills

Success in QA starts with how you think, not just what you know.

This section is all about helping you build the right mindset for learning and growing in tech. You’ll learn how to study effectively, stay consistent, and build confidence—even if you’ve never worked in tech before. This is your mindset shift from “Can I do this?” to “I’m doing this.”

L3 - Transferable Skills – Recognize What You Already Have

You’re not starting from scratch—you’re starting from experience.

This section helps you connect the dots between your previous jobs and the core skills needed in QA. Whether you've worked in healthcare, education, retail, or another field, you’ll discover how your communication, problem-solving, attention to detail, or even customer service experience makes you already qualified for a QA role—you just need the language to position it.

Module 2: KNOW Necessary QA Terms, Tools, and Skills (QA Skills Learning Labs / Sprints)

L1 - The Basics of Software Testing: QA Key Terms & Responsibilities

Speak the language of QA with confidence.

Before you jump into tools, you need to understand the foundational terms used in testing. In this section, you'll learn the essential vocabulary of QA—from bugs and defects to test cases and test plans—so you can understand job descriptions, ace interviews, and talk like someone who belongs in the role.

L2- The Basics of Software Testing: Types of Testing & Environments

Know what type of testing you’re doing—and why it matters.

Not all testing is the same. In this section, you’ll learn the different types of software testing (manual, functional, regression, performance, etc.) and when each one is used. You’ll leave this lesson knowing how to identify what kind of testing is being done in real-world scenarios.

L3 - Test Management Tools & Test Case Writing, Execution & Defect Reporting

Get and understanding of a Test Management Tool, Backlog, Sprint

L4 - Agile, Scrum & Methodologies

Understand how QA fits into the software development life cycle.

Tech companies don’t just hire testers—they hire team players who understand how software is built. This section breaks down Agile and Scrum methodologies so you can confidently work alongside developers, product managers, and stakeholders in fast-moving tech teams.

L5 - Introduction to SQL & Database Testing

Learn how to test what users can’t see.

Databases power almost every app and software system—and QA Engineers often test the data behind the scenes. In this section, you’ll learn the basics of SQL and how to validate data using simple, job-ready queries—even if you’ve never touched a database before.

L6 - Introduction to API Testing

Go beyond clicking buttons—learn how software systems talk to each other.

APIs are how modern applications communicate, and QA Engineers who know how to test APIs are in high demand. In this section, you’ll get a beginner’s introduction to API tools and learn how to check if APIs are working correctly—without needing to write code.

L7 - Mobile Testing

L8 - Crossbrowser Testing

L9 - Introduction to UI Automation

Take your skills to the next level—even as a beginner.

While manual testing is where you start, automation is how you grow. This section introduces you to user interface (UI) automation concepts, helping you understand what automation is, when it’s used, and how tools like Selenium or Katalon fit into the QA process. It’s your first step toward advanced skills without feeling overwhelmed.

Module 3: IMPROVE Optimize for the Market

L1 - Overview of Resume Improvement Techniques

Get your resume ready for recruiters and hiring managers.

This section breaks down exactly how to craft a beginner-friendly QA resume that highlights your transferable skills, new technical knowledge, and internship or project experience. You'll learn the keywords to use, mistakes to avoid, and how to confidently write about what you've done—even if you're still learning.

3 Ways to Pivot into QA – Video Series

No tech background? No problem.

In this powerful video series, you'll explore three proven pathways to break into QA—even without a degree or prior tech experience. Whether you want to start in manual testing, use your industry knowledge as a Subject Matter Expert, or pivot from customer-facing roles, you’ll discover the best route for your unique background.

Improve & Optimize for the Market – DIY with AI

Use AI tools to build your brand faster.

Leverage the power of AI to write your resume, cover letter, and even your LinkedIn profile—all tailored to the QA job market. This section walks you through simple AI prompts and tools that help you save time, sound professional, and stand out. Because the job search doesn’t have to be overwhelming when you have the right shortcuts.

Module 4: LEVEL UP Level Up Your Image For the Interviews

Tell Me About Yourself

Your first impression starts here—make it count.

This is one of the most common interview questions—and one of the most misunderstood. In this section, you’ll craft a compelling, confident answer that highlights your transferable skills, recent training, and why you're ready for a QA role now. No rambling. No overthinking. Just a powerful intro that sets the tone for the rest of your interview.

STAR Method

Tell better stories. Get better offers.

Behavioral interview questions are where many candidates freeze. Here, you’ll learn the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers in a clear, concise, and memorable way. You’ll also practice tailoring your responses to QA scenarios—even if you’ve never held a QA title before.

Why Are You Leaving So Soon?

Handle career pivots like a pro.

If you're transitioning from a recent job, contract, or non-tech background, this question can feel tricky. This section teaches you how to confidently explain your pivot story without sounding flaky, unsure, or underqualified. Learn how to flip the narrative into something strategic and strong.

Position Yourself Above the Rest

Be the candidate they remember.

In this final section, you’ll learn advanced positioning strategies—like how to ask smart questions, communicate your unique value, and bring the kind of energy and clarity that makes interviewers say, “We need to hire them.” This is your secret weapon for standing out in a crowded market.

Module 5: LOAD Load Your Resume & Profile Into the Market

Get In the Market

You don’t need to be perfect—you just need to be present.

You’re more ready than you think. This section helps you overcome the fear of applying and start taking action. You’ll learn how to position yourself as “actively job seeking,” how to update your job platforms, and how to stand out even without prior tech experience. Because you can’t land the job if you’re not in the game.

Load Your Resume Into the Market

Put your resume to work—literally.

In this step-by-step guide, you’ll learn where and how to upload your resume across key job boards, company career sites, and recruiter networks. You’ll also learn how to tailor your resume for different types of QA roles using smart, time-saving strategies that don’t require rewriting it from scratch every time.

Create a Job Search Strategy

Apply smarter, not harder.

Sending random applications won’t get you hired—strategy will. This section helps you create a realistic, focused job search plan based on your schedule, experience, and goals. You’ll learn how to track your applications, follow up the right way, and stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed.

Module 6 SCORE Score Interviews & Skillup

Score Interviews and Skill Up

Keep learning while you’re applying.

Even while you’re interviewing, you’re still growing. This section gives you a strategic path to continue sharpening your skills so you're not just landing roles—you’re showing up as the most prepared person in the room.

Before the Interview

Preparation turns nerves into confidence.

You’ll learn how to research the company, prepare your environment, and mentally rehearse key answers so you walk in feeling clear, calm, and confident. No more “winging it”—you’ll be ready for anything.

Questions to Ask in the Interview

Stand out by asking smarter questions.

This section helps you flip the script and impress interviewers by asking thoughtful, strategic questions that show you’re not just job hunting—you’re making a career move.

Negotiations

You can negotiate—even if it’s your first offer.

Learn how to confidently ask for more money, better benefits, or remote flexibility—without feeling greedy or scared to lose the offer. This is your guide to negotiating like someone who knows their worth.

Buy Time to Review Offer

Don’t rush your decision—own it.

This section gives you the exact language to request time to review your offer without sounding hesitant or ungrateful. Learn how to pause, think it through, and make empowered career choices.

Interview Thank You

A simple follow-up that makes you unforgettable.

Discover how to write a brief but impactful thank you note that shows professionalism, enthusiasm, and keeps you top of mind after the interview.

Contract, Contract-to-Hire, Direct Hire

Understand your employment type—before you sign.

Not all offers are created equal. In this section, you’ll learn the difference between contract, contract-to-hire, and direct hire—and what each means for your paycheck, job security, and next move.

Asking for Feedback

Turn rejection into redirection.

Didn’t get the role? You’ll learn how to ask for feedback the right way—so you can grow from every interview and position yourself stronger for the next one.

Contract Ends Early

Stay calm, and plan your next move.

Learn how to handle short-term or unexpectedly ended contracts with professionalism and confidence. This section shows you how to pivot fast and keep your momentum going.

When to Resign

What If They Question Your Previous Job Responsibilities or Title?

Handle skepticism with clarity and confidence.

If an interviewer questions your background or how you qualify for QA, you’ll know exactly what to say. This section gives you scripts and strategies to turn doubts into proof that you’re ready and capable—even if your last title wasn’t in tech.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really do this without experience, a degree or certifications?

Yes! Here’s the thing—apply for EVERYTHING. Let your resume do the talking and let the job tell you NO. Most job listings include 3-5 core requirements, while the rest is just a wish list. Many companies even accept "relevant" or "equivalent" experience.
Some roles may prefer a degree or specific certification, but that shouldn’t stop you—apply anyway and let them decide.
Since January 2022, 170+ Road To QA students have landed jobs without prior experience, a degree, or certifications. If the market starts requiring QA certifications, we’ll adapt our program to support that need. But right now, we’re confident—you can land your first QA role without a degree or certifications. 🚀
